Lets party!

Due to the fact that Carl and myself do not plan to get married for a couple of years, and we live far, far away from our family and friends in Wiltshire, it was decided we should have an engagement party.

The party was held at The Kings - which is a tradition pub in Swindon, our home town.

We had our own function room in the pub, which we miraculously managed to fill (didn't realise we knew that many people!). There was tons of food, all our favourite songs playing (some supplied by our friends - with the best taste in music - we were very grateful) and lots of drinks to go round.

There of course had to be the ceremonial cutting of the cake. This was made more enjoyable by the fact there was a picture of Carl and myself on it - it also tasted fantastic.

I have to admit I had no part in organising any of this - my wonderful Mum sorted it all (with the assistance of others). I feel like a very bad daughter that I did not offer more help, particularly after walking in and seeing all the effort she put in. All I did was worry about what I was going to wear and whether I could last the whole night in my high heels! However, I think me and Carl made up for it by doing our hosting duties and mingling with everyone - hard work but good practice for the real thing.

I'm very grateful to everyone who made it such a lovely evening. I will make it up to my Mum. I promise.

One ring to rule them all

Ok, the tile of this blog is obviously taken from Lord of the Rings, but have no fear I am not going to geek out on you. This story is much more romantic and there isn't an orc in sight (no jokes please about me in the morning!).

As promised I am going to tell you about the engagement ring....
When Carl proposed to me he had a 'temporary' engagement ring - a plain gold band - the intention is that gold band will become my wedding ring. Presenting me with a band is actually more appropriate than it may seem - my Mum had a temporary wedding ring which I would wear - so it is a strange family tradition.

Carl took me to choose a proper engagement ring. We went to Hemswell Antique Centre just outside of Lincoln and thats were I fell in love with my ring. I always wanted an antique ring - something that had been loved before and needed love again. I realise that my ring is a bit 'different', but anyone who knows me will say that is entirely appropriate.

So that is the finally of the proposal. Our aim now is to keep you updated as we build up to the big day!

The Proposal

When ever I mention to anyone I am engaged one of the first things they normally ask is 'how did he do it?'. Well, the story goes like this...
  1. Like the true gentlemen he is, he asked my Dad's permission first
  2. It was the 7th January and our anniversary weekend
  3. We were away in our university home of Lincoln at the lovely Old Bakery
  4. I wasn't feeling very well and looked a mess: nose blocked, hair like a birds nest, and scruffy clothes
  5. He got down on one knee in the middle of our hotel room and asked me to marry him
  6. I said 'of course', surely the answer was obvious, but he was very relieved
  7. We rang our nearest and dearest to deliver the news, and then had a fantastic meal at the Old Bakery
Sorry for the bad quality but this is 'the' room

In all honesty, it has taken me a while to get used to the idea of being engaged. Several times I have said to Carl I don't think I can do it - having to walk down the isle in front of lots of people seems like a really bad idea. But I am finally feeling excited. I'm sure the nerves will come back in the lead up to the big day, but we are going to enjoy our engagement for as long as possible before that time comes.

The start of our journey...

So this is the start of it all. A 18 carat gold marquise diamond engagement ring - I sometimes can not stop staring at it - it is just so beautiful!
You may wonder how I managed to get such a splendid ring placed on this finger? Well I will give you the full story in due course, but for now lets just enjoy this pretty ring and all the hopes and dreams it represents.

I am one very lucky lady.
